The F body if memory serves. After the great denutting
didn't follow engines enough to note whether they still
had their own engine blocks [as in the 70 and before]
or even shared that.

I dunno, would think one of the big late 50's "fin" Caddies would
be even cooler, or the old straight body Continental. This
if you couldn't find a '66 GTO or a Hemi Superbird of course.

Yup. Some wiseacre auto mag had one tuned up and then stuffed
it in an XKE Jag. Stock, it reminded me too much of the
Cosworth Vega and 66 Turbo Corsa... a great idea turned to
crap by the beancounters.

Sure they had their own engines. In the latter 70's, the Pontiac Trans
Am shared an engine with Olds before Chevy. You had to order the T/A 6.6
to get the Pontiac version, otherwise you had an Olds 403.

The muscle car era wasn't 1985, currently they share the same LS1
engine, same 6 speed tranny, same chassis, sure there was more variation
in the 80's but just look at them, same platform... lots of parts that
are the same.

Not American, and they're not listed in my Motor Manuals up to the
early eighties. I have seen some Canadian Pontiacs, and I remember a
Mercury Comet, something, that were all screwed up.

I thought the first big flap was putting the Chev 350 blocks into
the Olds when they ran out. There was a big class action lawsuit
from it, mostly based on the old Oldsmobile advertising for their
"positive valve rotation" that was claimed to prolong the life
of engine valves compared to engines without it. Dimly recall
that the result of the lawsuit to buyers was mostly discount
certificates.... one discount on a new Olds if you win the
lawsuit, *two* discount certificates on a new Olds if you
*lose* the lawsuit.
