4.0 manifold crack !
have a 97 TJ with 4.0 a crack above the flange.
need some ideas- tips -recommendations weld it ? aftermarket ? header ? what have some of you done, did it work and for how long did it last ? again thanks casca |
Re: 4.0 manifold crack !
Header IMO.... good excuse to 'upgrade'. You could go with the new
type of exhaust manifold I guess, but since you're taking in the expense anyway, I say upgrade. Same thing happened to me... I found a Thorley header on closeout for a helluva price, and went that route. I've talked to several who have gone the 'weld it' route and it lasted maybe a year. Banks, Gibson, etc. Watch for the fit, only a few are "direct replacement" the others require fabrication of a new downpipe or replacement to the cat. > what have some of you done, did it work and for how long did it last ? I went with the Banks header. Had a little problem with the motor mount though. Nothing the ol angle grinder couldn't fix. http://members.cox.net/douglas.wilson/banks/ Still need to do a better write-up, that's just some images I did for the folks at Banks so they could look at how it fit. Also look into http://www.gtelaw.com/jeepclassactio...formation.html There is a class action lawsuit against DC for this particular issue. Might want to see what kind of a deal Jeep will cut you on replacement. -- DougW |
