Never had a problem with not having one on my YJ. My wife has a '93
XJ that didn't come with one from the factory.
That being said...do any of you guys that took your's off want to get
rid of that ugly thing laying aroung the garage?

I think that the rule of thumb is: If it is not a punch-list item (like
horn, wipers and parking brakes) and it is there for the inspector to see,
it must work. In many jurisdictions that seems to be the case for older
emissions controls. Here in Connecticut no emissions inspector has
complained that my AIR pump, along with the air rail and all associated
plumbing, is missing on my `79 CJ-5.

I think that the rule of thumb is: If it is not a punch-list item (like
horn, wipers and parking brakes) and it is there for the inspector to see,
it must work. In many jurisdictions that seems to be the case for older
emissions controls. Here in Connecticut no emissions inspector has
complained that my AIR pump, along with the air rail and all associated
plumbing, is missing on my `79 CJ-5.
