2003 Jeep TJ Speedo Cluster Compatibility
I have and 03 TJ with about 70K miles and my speedo just started
reading 888888, but the trip odo still works fine. The dealership told
me that the cluster is bad and I need to spend a lot of $ on a new one.
They did assure me that the mileage is all stored in the ECU, so a
used on is an option. Does anyone know what year range is compatible
with my Jeep's Speedo Cluster or where I can get my cluster repaired or
even where I can find one that isn't going to break the bank. The
dealership said about $300+ tax for the Cluster and then there is the
labor, which I can do myself. Thanks for any help!

300 isn't a bad price if that's for the whole cluster. CPD
http://www.chryslerpartsdirect.com/ has it for US$495, list $604
You could call them and ask. 888-528-2200
(no relation to CPD, just a happy customer)
As for the true problem, can't tell without digging into it.
It could be as simple as a loose connection, the circuit
board, or the speedometer head.
Heck, I'd try removing the battery ground for a couple of minutes
then putting it back to see if the problem clears.
Does it go away if you THWACK the dash?

Recycling yards are supposed to have parts interchange books, that say which
part goes with which model and year. I haven't consulted them regarding
this particular part, but I have found their information reliable in other
applications.
