Eewww, think I'll just fill mine slowish! I have the same
problem on my '02 TJ and it does seem to help if I twist the
hose handle to the left during the fill.

That is what I would do.
It would take some doing to pinch the hose, so the damage if any should
be visible under there also.

Ditto, it may be the shipper's fault if they did have to remove the
tank.
