What is the best way to check the mount?

I wish you had tested while the driveshaft was out to leave the
front ring and pinion out of the equation. Will the transfer make any
noise while in transfer is in neutral, engine running transmission in
gear?

No noise with the transfer in neutral and the transmission in gear with the
engine running.
Take the front shaft back out and try again?
Thanks Bill,

Re: 1982 CJ-7
I think you have to. Because all the gears are spinning while the
Dana 300 is in neutral, being spun be the transmission, that's how we
make sure all is lubricated every hundred miles or so flat towing. Pull
the driveshaft, and you should be able to feel it by turning the pinion
by hand, then confirm the pieces by removing the cover.
