HL&S <G>, but don't you think it's more than just a little bit dishonest
to snip what I wrote and then claim I said something completely different?
What I wrote shows my opinion that a Jeep is any of a family of 1/4 ton
utility vehicles manufactured by Bantam, Ford, and ****** under military
contract, and all subsequent vehicles of a similar visual design
manufactured by ******, Kaiser, AMD, Mitsubishi, and Chrysler, followed
by DC. I also can acknowledge in other areas of the world that jeep is
used somewhat less specifically with no major heartburn. Really, what
good does it do to jump up and down screeching "your the wrong", when it
will not change their usage? Is is what *is*, not what should be.

for the record, what I originally wrote:
-------------------------------------------
When I was in Thailand on an install I had the opportunity during some
slack time to visit some of the local ruins. My local contact said he
would get a "jeep" that we could take into the back country. I was quite
surprised when he rolled up in an old Landrover 88. Now, if I had had my
pee-pee whacked as badly by D.C. as you have had, I probably would have
taken umbrage at his characterization of an obvious knock-off as a
"jeep". Instead, I realized that the larger world can see things quit
differently than self proclaimed "insiders". It is not a matter of right
or wrong, simply the ability to observe reality, and that reality is
that in many parts of the world, a jeep is any four wheel drive utility
vehicle. BTW, one school of thought is that the term jeep was coined as
an alliteration of the Ford GPW designation. It was then applied
generically to any of the three Bantam derived 1/4 ton recon vehicles
produced for the war. It is odd that a slang term applied generically
could, after the fact, be copyrighted and used as a trade name, but
stranger things have happened.

YOU stated that in many parts of the world any 4x4 is referenced as a jeep.
you went on to DEFEND IT by claiming its usage was reasonable
(paraphrasing).
"reality is that in many parts of the world, a jeep is any four wheel drive
utility vehicle." YOUR words.
jeff i dont care whats done anywhere in the world it doesnt change the
bottom line. no matter how many ignorant people say it, a land rover is NOT
a jeep. by the same token, no matter how many ignorant people use "freon"
to describe refrigerant it just does not make it so. you can continue to
argue your ignorance all you want, you cannot change the bottom line and the
harder you argue your ignorance the more you take away from your valid
points.
