'What' is a 'next generation' axle?

It's not that aluminum thing that can't hold it's own weight on a jack
like they put in the Grand is it?

I 'really' wouldn't want one of those pieces of crap.

Correct (obviously). One of the many standard equipment items that make a
Rubicon so expensive - and well worth it if you spend a lot of time off
road.

D44 was standard on Rubicons, optional on Sports & Saharas. That goes
for pretty much all years of the TJ. Of course, that's just in the USA.
Maybe the UK market was different. ;)
