Re: 00 cherokee - no codes displayed
Go with a sensor, I had similar happen to my 93 XJ, it went to almost full
travel when running, went two years with it like that (I slaved in an
additional press. gauge to confirm the sending unit was bad, so wasn't in a
rush to fix), then one day after my local garage having been working in the
area (had them changed the valve cover gasket and filter adaptor orings with
some additional work) the silly thing decided to work again. (could have
been a piece of oring blocking the sensor). My 93 XJ still has me
dumbfounded when it comes to displaying codes, it doesn't! or it doesn't
like displaying them for me, but that's what "free code reading" shops are
for :)

Re: 00 cherokee - no codes displayed
I would clean and tighten the connection first. I prefer to use a spray
contact cleaner you can get from electronic shops on our Cherokee
connections. I do all of the sensor ones every couple years on my old
beast.
The connector might be a push on type that can need to be tightened.

Re: 00 cherokee - no codes displayed
If you fix the oil pressure sensor issue and still have rough idle, try
a set of new ignition wires. Near as I can remember, every time I first
noticed a set of wires had gone bad, it was always on a really wet day.

Re: 00 cherokee - no codes displayed
My oil pressure gage was pegged out for a long time. Then this past
summer I had a big overheat/boilover event when my crap plastic coolant
bottle developed a fracture. Anyway, after that the oil pressure gage
started to read correct again and has continued to do so since. Go figure.
