00 cherokee - no codes displayed

My daughter just bought a 00 Cherokee Sport with a straight six last
week from guy here in town. She called me from road and said her oil
pressure was way high. She brought it home and here is what we got.

Oil pressure gauge is pegged up to 80 lbs with key on and motor either
running or not running. It runs rough at idle, and the check engine
light stays on. I tried the on/off on/off on/off on trick, but can't
get any codes out of the thing. Odometer doesn't display anything but
miles. No codes, no 'DONE' no nothing.

Today was I think the first day it rained around here since she been
driving the thing, but I am reluctant to connect the rain to the
problem just yet.

I'm kinda surprised no codes were displayed. Any ideas?

regards,
Bob

Oil pressure doesn't set codes.

Re: 00 cherokee - no codes displayed

Thanks for reply with links Doug. I'll check the wire out tomorrow
first thing. I didn't think that oil pressure would set codes, but
thought that an electrical glitch might cause all three probs at once.
The rough running, check engine light and high oil pressure display all
at the same time were too much of a coincidence or me.

Regards,
Bob

Rough run can be caused by a corroded engine ground strap, but starting
in 93 they used a cable. It looks like the 00 might watch oil pressure
and put the engine in "limp home" mode, but the only sensor code I see
is for "Oil pressure sender problems"

I'm still guessing the connector is corroded or came loose.

As for codes, try here. http://www.allpar.com/fix/codes.html
00 is an oddball year, you might need the DRB scantool to pull codes.
