Well aside from I don't have a nice clean place to do it (I live in an apartment) also don't know how many cans I will need, and how much money it would cost. I know Bedlinder is permanent but it's also permanently indestructible pretty much. I understand, and if I could guarantee a good job I would plasti dip it tomorrow. But I don't have the space to do it.

Professional quoted me 65-80 bucks for the job and aprox 4 hours of work. That includes alcohol cleanup and drying time. I really wish I had the space for this, I would do it myself.

What do you mean you don't have space to do it? you have a kitchen table don't you? Many years ago I re-built a motor on the kitchen table, mother was not impressed.

I don't actually have a kitchen table, just me and my girlfriend living here and we eat at our coffee table :S

I have a feeling that the guy probably didn't clean his Jeep very well before hand... clay bar that junk, and put on a good coat of premium wax... it will peel right off

I dipped my Jetta's chrome bumper right on the car, outside IN FEBRUARY so you can do your grill whenever, where ever... so long as the car is perfectly dry and the cans are warm (i kept them in the house and also heated them (very carefully) with my heatgun)

first photo is when i originally sprayed my chrome, you can still see the frost that was on the car around it lol, it was a few weeks into owning the car, second photo is a few months later when i was showing a detailing shop plastidip and put on a fresh coat for the summer (even though it applied perfectly beforehand) i wanted to see how protected the chrome was since i had made a trip down south and there was some minor road rash

Clay bar is kind of over the top, all you need to prep the surface is something like rubbing alcohol or even windex will do the trick. It will peel off a dirty surface too as long as you have enough layers on it, so thats not an issue. I've watched so many videos on this stuff it's crazy!

i've worked as a professional detailer for a few years, so i always go over the top lol...
i mean you see how clear that paint is on that VW lol

but yeah not using enough plastidip isn't the worst thing you can do, you can always spray more onto it and peel it off... but who wants to use more just to peel it off...

i've done about 5 cars now in plastidip... some were to protect the original paint so they could resell it later, and they wanted that flat black look... another was because he couldn't afford to repaint half his car lol... was a much cheaper option lol

I could imagine, I just wish I had more space to do it myself that is all. I think simply lighter coats to start would solve any uneven issues. I think also because there rattle cans people tend to spray closer rather then trying to fan coat it, but I can't be sure because I don't do alot of painting myself.

well i think most of it is from people seeing the texture when its initially sprayed and still wet... it looks like ---- while its wet... then thinking oh no this is going to look like crap when it dries, then spraying too thick of a coat to even it out... lots of thin coats is the trick...

my neighbour just picked up a plasti-dipped RX8 last night... the guys that did it did a pretty decent job...
