Question 2012 Rubi questions

I've always looked at purchasing a Jeep but just never did get around to it. Although now I'm really looking at this new 2012 with the extra 86hp, just a few question come to my head before I even consider this.

I am currently driving a 08 C300 Mercedes that is currently bleeding me dry in repair costs and maintenance. I am hoping that buying a domestic vehicle it will be a tad easier on my wallet.

I know the Jeep as many put it is a block on wheels and not to expect the best fuel economy with it, I checked the sites and most "claim" Automatic Transmission
city 12.6 / highway 9.5 (L/100 km). Now my question is does the Jeep actually hit those numbers or not? If anyone could tell me how much you spend on average on a tank of gas that would be great also.

Repair costs for this vehicle is my other question, I would like to know what the average service cost is on it for like the 5k, 10k, 15k, check ups. Also maybe some little things like rear brakes replacement cost, the cost of a sets of new stock tires placed on the Rubi.

I'm trying to see if buying this and replacing my current car is worth it or if I am going from one car that's costing me a fortune to another one that will cost me the same. I know I will probably spend cash on other things on this vehicle but I want to make damn sure that the basic upkeep isn't costing me a fortune.

Sorry for the wall of text hopefully someone can answer a few of my questions.

you can expect between 12 to 17 miles per gallon or 18 to 21 liters per 100km and costs aboput $90 to fill at $1,27 a litre any better than this it must be completly stock with the wind in your back

Holy crap $90.00 to fill ....I don't even pay that for my car currently and it has a 67L tank I think. Although my average fill up is $1.09-$1.25/L so that could also be the reasoning for the lower gas prices on my fills, since they range from about 70-80 bucks depending on gas.

Wow really that's interesting how your getting a different mpg then alexxx, since 5mpg is in my eyes a very big thing. Might not be for some that buy the Jeep for its off road properties. Wonder if the 2012 does have a better mpg then the later versions and if so is it because of the new engine they have plopped into it.

So here's a question you think since the 2012 has boasted better MPG that it will be better? I know never to believe what is posted on their specs but they are "claiming" Automatic Transmission city / highway (L/100 km) 12.6 / 9.5. I would really love to know if anyone has a 2012 and is really getting these numbers or if they are like you guys claim in the 18-21 or 15 L/100km

When manufacturers do their mpg test it is on an enclosed track. No accessories(AC), no rain, no snow or stop and go. Smooth road and a steady speed. No hills, no passing, no stopping at Timmy's for a cup of jo.
I've got a 2010 Rubi and 18 to 22 mpg is as good as you are going to get. That being said...I love my JKU.
And I laugh every time I see a Hummer H2 go by with more chrome than a '58 Caddy and more roof lights
than a big rig!

I dont have a jeep yet, but with ANY engin, right from factory it is not going to be at its best, it needs time to be worked in before you start getting the better more consistant numbers. Ive heard from some ppl who have gotten their 2012's amoung the first shipped (US jeep forums), that after 12k+ they are getting closer to the spec numbers, but as mentioned above this is heavily effected by and MODs done, weather and road conditions and traffic flow.

Oh ya I assume they have a controlled environment for all these test I was just hoping for someone with a 2012 to chime in and tell me what they are running. So you say 18-22 is that combined city or highway or is that just city? That is about 10-13 L/100 I guess that isn't too shabby as my car is averaging about 12.7 L/100 in the city as it is.

Haha and I agree with the whole H2 thing I honestly don't see the reason to buy a great military vehicle that has been commercialized and made into a plastic giant. That thing is no more a hummer / off road machine then my super sport motorcycle is a dirt bike.

Yah I assumed that if you have lift kits and large *** tires your L/100 will go down the crap tube I was just wondering on a stock unit. Well that's good to know that after the break in period the numbers were somewhat closer. I am just very surprised on a Jeep forum there isn't one member on here that owns a 2012 Rubicon, or maybe they just haven't read my post yet..lol.

Yes they do. They don't do mpg tests in rain, snow or high winds...it affects the outcome. No accessories as they draw power from the engine which means less mpg. 18-22 mpg (US gal) is the best average I can get. 2012 is supposed to be better. Wait till it breaks in...it should go up...if not buy a Superchips.

Just made the trip from Fort McMurray to Edmonton with my cruise control set around 110 and averaged just over 18mpg. Couple of stops for traffic, hills and some light wind. Not too bad. Not like you buy a Jeep for economy anyways LOL

I'm only on my 2nd tank of fuel but My first tank yeilded 13.2L/100kms mixed driving and so far after reseting the computer I'm doing 12.2L/100kms. I stuffed in the 2nd tank but it took 62L of gas and I did 440kms so I wasn't empty. I remember it clicking off at 58L but managed 4L more so if I do the conversion it works out to 21.3 IMP MPG or 17.8 US MPG.

Based on 12.2L/100kms I expect over 500kms out of this tank so it's not bad really. Not much worst then my wifes 2010 DC Tacoma, just way more fun to drive.

Oh and just FYI, I have 2012 JKUR, 6spd, 4:10.....
