hey all need some opinions. Time for new tires on my GC! I have come to 2 different tires. I am going with one of these. If anyone has used either of these please shoot and reply with your reviews.I found alot of mixed reviews on both. thanks all!

Sorry...never used them. How much "Off-Road" use are they going to see, and what kind of Off-Road terrain?

Any reason you're not looking at the BFG's? They are one of the most popular A/T tires out there...

The BFG's are the way to go for sure. And if my memory serves me right, they are a couple of $$ cheaper then both tires you posted. I think mine were around $175 if I remember right, they were 30x9.5x15's that I had

 

I beg to differ on the BFG's. I've got them now, and although they are good in most ways, they are absolutely SCARY on the winter highway. The tread just doesn't seem to clear of snow and slush from what I can determine and the compound is somewhat too stiff or perhaps a combination of factors, such as no close siping. They are great three seasons, but a slip and slide nightmare come winter and especially if the highway is not kept thoroughly cleaned as it is here in B.C.

If you're vehicle is for family commuting through the winter months in snowy Hamilton - I'd go for a dedicated winter tire, then switch to a sportier looking grabber for when the roads are clear of ice and snow. Just my 0.02 cents.

 

Most off road tires suck in the snow. You can't have a tire that is perfect for everything. But you can have them siped fairly cheaply if you wanted to, or as the post above says (and what I'd recommend as well), go with a proper winter tire for the ice and snow. Outside of winter driving, which no A/T (or all season for that matter) is designed for, the BFG is a great all around tire for every day use. Of the 2 that the OP has posted though, after a little reading I'd probably look at the first one. It's got better reviews, and as a bonus is cheaper!

As for winter only tires, I've had good success with Michelin as well as the Canadian Tire brand winter tires (Although, the Michelin's were better, they were quite a bit more $$$$ at retail price. The CT's did fine for my daily driving though.) Bridgestone winter tires were quite popular as well when I was at a tire shop, but have never used them personally. The Nokian winter tires at Kal Tire look good too. A guy at work has some on his wife's Honda and loves them.

I'm biased, I've got the Firestone Destination M/T's and I've met a few guy's that have the A/T's.
But I have never seen the General personally.

A friend had a set of TSL's A/T's on his wagoneer for years and did offroading as well as it being his daily driver in summer and winter and said they held the road really well.. much better than some other brands.

 

thanks for the input peeps! I like the BFG's but they are $240 each. The Generals have close to the same tread pattern as the BFG's so that is why Ilooked at them. The Firestone's were the cheapest and there have been alot of good reviews I have read about them. I'll do and update once I get them mounted (whatever ones I get) and let yo all know.I am the only one who drives my GC and might carry my daughter in it 1-2 times a week. When we go out as a family we take our 05 Eddie Bauer Explorer. I do manily highway driving with the odd weekend of play in the mud. Imight just flip a coin lol!!

 

What size tires are we talking about? Most places will price match...Should be less then $240/tire.

Yeah not to sound rude to the place where you were quoted $240 for the BFG's, but you must have a rather large or unusual tire size for that price per tire??? Just trying to help you out here, but I suggest you try a bit more shopping at many more tires shops before you buy anything.
