Default Looking at '00 GC Limited.

Hiya,
New member here. Started off about 15 years ago with an AMC Eagle 4X4, then moved to current 1994 Cherokee Country edition which I've had for the last 7 years. She's got about 400K on the clock and getting just a bit tired like her owner and I really don't want to take the time to prep' her for the winter.
Found a '00 Grand Limited with 80K for $7500. I gave it a 10 minute once over (MY mechanics inspection-NOT a safety. is still to come). Lock actuators are probably shot (they are all making noise and one is dead) and I don't think I can negotiate a fix with the seller.
Otherwise it looks fairly clean and straight. Has the 4.7. It will be safetied and E-tested.
Any comments? Thanks.

Sounds like a good price, the dual climate control (if so equipt) had an issue with the blend doors and the heated seat sensors left something to be desired, but nothing that couldn't be fixed.
Decent motor and good transmission. What transfer case/ axle setup does it have?

Hello Dan,
Thanks for the response. I was getting a bit worried that no-one would offer an opinion.
I have done some web research regarding the "limitations" of the Limited vs. Laredo and I DO understand that the blend doors are not the most robust. As to the heated seats...My better 3/4 has heated seats on her car and I don't like them so this could be a bonus for me.
As I mentioned, the '00 GC has the 4.7l engine with 80K . I haven't been under the vehicle yet so I have no idea as to transfer case or axle spec's. It does have Quadradrive II but I don't know if this suggests one specific TC. How would I determine what axles? Are you talking axle ratios or "style" of axle?
I did notice that the calipers were black (Teves?) suggesting that they were NOT the preferred calipers (the "good" ones being silver-Akebono?).
One of the main reasons I am staying with Jeeps, aside from the numerous benifits that everyone on this site is aware of is they are SO easy to work on (compared to the majority of the rice rockets out there) and my 94 Cherokee has NEVER let me down, gotten irretrevibley stuck and it's a blast to drive.
Thanks again Dan and any other opinions out there?
Peter.

Morning Peter,
If the T/C just has full time and 4 low then you have a NV247 which automatically swithes traction from R- F like the Audi's and VW, which means you more than likely have the Dana 30 up front and the Dana 35 in the rear, if you haven't found the site yet check out WJJeeps.com - Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ 1999-2004 it's a great site with all kinds of info on the 99-04 WJ's including all current TSB's on all years.
Another site you may want to check out is Jeep Forum - Jeep Enthusiast Network

Hello Dan et al,
Just got back from the mechanics. You are absolutley right TC is 247J Didn't notice what the heck the diff's were. The consol is lableled Quadra Drive. Leaking front pinion seal, leaking tranny pan gasket. Not much else wrong other than the CTC tyres (newish but crap anyway) and some of the door lock actuators are "quacking" (dealer said he'd fix those). She's also iddling and accelrating quite rough (enough to notice through the steering wheel and the seat of the pants). That's on the list for the dealer to address as well. If all goes through she'll be ours on Fri. for $8300 incl tax. C'mon SNOW!!!!!
Peter.

You will probably have the 30 up front and the 35 in the rear, with the Quadra Drive it splits power F/R and L/R automatically, no driver input required. Mine has the 247 with QuadraTrac II which just splits it F/R.
If you want snow your more than welcome to come and pick up as much as you want. There's about a foot just laying around right now.
CTC tires...people should be afraid when they see a tire with a 150,000km warranty on a 50.00 tire. The rubber is so hard you could use it for bumpers.
Sounds like one or two of the coil packs are misfiring, all in all sounds like a Jeep. :)

Wooo Hooo,
Just got the call, my new ride is ready. The engine roughness was due to a bad injector....replaced. I expect all the other issues have been dealt with as well. So, I'm off on my first road trip.....Florida, here I come....I know, I know, I was asking for snow but it will give me the chanch to check out the heating/cooling louvres while she's still under warranty.
Peter.

Hiya 04,
Just back from FL....What a great ride! Everything appears to work and I averaged about 19mpg (that's US gallons). Those heated seats are great for a sore back after 10 hrs! Never liked them much but my back now does.
I noticed the tweeters appear to be shot so I will address that issue sometime in the future. Does replacement require a total dash removal or can this be done from above? I read about this somewhere but can't remember now.
Never mind the last question. I found what I was looking for.....
Peter.

Hey Peter,
Glad the road trip went well, those heated seats can be nice at times. Hopefully you don't have any major problems with it in the future. That XJ of yours is going to be jealous now.
Mine's acting like a princess right now...
