Hello everyone,

I'm new to this site (joined yesterday)

I have a question ... I have a 93 gc, the vic constantly resets and throws errors such as bad coolant sensor, service 4wd, and a number of others randomly . The jeep runs fine so i assume the vic is faulty? Oh sometimes the vic doesn't even work at all and at the same top the overhead display goes out too (the one that shows mileage, outside temp , etc).
I'm not to concerned ...mostly curious. I paid $200 for the jeep and use it mainly to move my trailer around and tow cars. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Well they have a known issue with the solder joints... if you dissasemble and take a soldering iron to each of the points Alot of these issue will not pop up anymore...

my 93 Grand had the Service 4wd switch, and my 98 Grand had the bad coolant sensor... resoldering resolved both Issues in both jeeps

well thank you . thats the first time i have heard that solution. I have done some general reading on the interweb since yesterday and i found no solutions other then changing the vic or replacing the items the vic said were faulty. If soldering doesn't work then i'm sure throwing it into the garbage will. Thanks again.
You should see this jeep, ppl often wonder how i drive it. I have to manual shift the tranny and it doesn't usually use 1st gear and never uses overdrive. someone had tried to steel it so a screwdriver is now used as my key. I find it quite funny. I have owned a YJ, TJ and this is my second GC. Pretty tough vehicles . I'm a volkswagon fan and the jeep has helped me move plenty of them around

yeah i borrowed a sensor that i knew was good, and it still came up, figured it was a wiring issue, then after pretty much ruling it out after tracing it back to the PCM i got on the internet and dug deep to find someone on a forum saying check the solder at the VIC itself... and sure enough...

but the VIC is really 2 circuit boards, one is primarily the display, the other is the input board (where the vehicle harness connects to the board is what i resoldered... and basically i heated it up, and dropped a bit of extra solder on 1

I actually almost bought a VW that came into the garage the other day... but i dont know if i want to be driving a Yellow Bug around... lol

just took the VIC out and will work on it a bit later today hopefully. oh if the bug is the original version (not the one they re released in the 90's) you should go for it. The new beetles are for girls anyways lol. Think of it this way... the car will never depreciate and they are so much fun to drive, not to mention how easy they are to work on.
