Hi! I have a 1997 Cherokee sport, 5spd, 4 door, 4.0L
I currently have a chrysler 8.25, 29 spline rear diff with 3.07 gears...
Took it to my mechanic the other day and told me my rear end was shot, gears all worn down and that I should replace the whole diff....

Wondering if I should stay with the same diff and change the gears or go with something else... Called a few places In Thunder Bay, and they want $650 to $850 for a used diff.....

So I What do I look for and where can I find one cheaper????

Some people have swapped in a ford explorer rearend. 8.8 diff much stronger. 850 is a bit rich. If you look around you could find a whole jeep for that, and have alot of parts. good luck.
