thanks. i am very fortunate. also my career provides me with plenty of tools and a trailer to carry them in. i am considering an overland/expedition trailer with a roof top tent as the final piece of the puzzle. they're awful pricey though... may have to build my own.

btw- in your earlier post you mentioned hitting crappy tire on your way out of town... i would not suggest that. almost every other person in your area will be thinking the same thing. while you all are fighting over the last pack of spark plugs or tent or whatever, i'm already miles down the road. the trick is not having lots of $ at your disposal when the SHTF. a massive solar flare or EMP would knock out the grid making credit cards and cash virtually useless anyways... i would suggest scouring kijiji (like i do, lol) well ahead of time for the items you need, and prep what you can, when you can. and on that note, hit your local wreckers and secure a few things for your vehicle that are sensitive to EMP's, like your on board computer and such. buy a steel garbage can and build a faraday cage to store them in. ( i have detailed instructions for this, pm me if interested.)

it doesn't have to cost a lot to be prepared.

Not only cost it's also space, I've no where to put anything.

I never said I was going to canadian tire to pay for stuff, I have one less then 2 blocks away from me. I'm driving my jeep into the garage and loading up on supplies and running. I literally have nowhere to put anything, I have enough "stuff" in my tiny 1 bedroom apartment as it is. Right now my best prep is my brain, I have a few tools i keep in my truck so worst comes to worst I'm just heading for the hills as is.

One thing i really wanted to get was some way for my jeep to hold extra water and fuel with some rudimentary filtration system to restock at open sources. Also want to lift and all that to make it more capable when i do find a spot out in the middle of nowhere to go.

there's always options. a family member may allow you to store some things in the garage, or a friend's place, etc. and there's always the art of geocaching...

your right though, your best prep is your brain.

my solution for water filtration was to buy a platypus gravity fed water filter. i can filter 4 liters in under 2 minutes. with the dromedary bag and dirty bag full, i can carry 8L at a time.

the fuel issue is a little more difficult... storing fuel for any length of time is a challenge, and you wouldn't want to waste time waiting in a lineup for gas, just to have them run out. one option could be a small "tidy tank" mounted to one of those racks that fit your receiver... rig up a 12v reversible pump, (or one of those fuel pump riggins that goes in your cordless drill). there are also poly fuel tanks for
boats that store a fair amount of fuel, and are relatively easy to handle...

Something like this, but with locks on the fuel cans that lock them to the rack. I am thinking if I can get 2 20L cans that would give me quite a bit of distance. As for water, not sure but I did see a really cool video with a fire fighter that put water in his bumper.

i had an idea for making something that will fit in my spare tire pocket (below the back floor) in my grand cherokee... once i get my new tires, that will all be wasted space.

that video is seriously cool though! it's amazing what you can do with a little ingenuity. if you are handy at all with a welder, you could easily make up a fuel can rack similar to the one you pictured above. fabricating it yourself will save you money as opposed to purchasing one...

I havn't done any welding in years, but I am pretty good at it. It's an interesting idea, maybe if I had my own welder and property to kinda work on it I'm sure i could come up with some pretty solid designs. But then I would also get a mandrel and make my own bumpers tire carrier and rock rails
