Default supercharging

Well , I had a few hours to kill this morning and after owning our 09 Wrangler X with the 3.8 auto and disappointed with the engine I've been looking at supercharging. The internet is a wonderful thing !! I've found a site from rippmods.com ( no , I don't work or anything else for them) and found it VERY interesting. I won't go into all the details here , you can check yourself if your interested. I say I'm disappointed in the engine because it just seems to need even an extra 50 hp. and I guess I still compare it to my old 79 CJ-5 with the 304 V-8. It didn't seem to bad at all. Also, seeing as the Jeep is really my wifes and she doesn't "get it" I shouldn't be complaining !! LOL I'm just patiently waiting until midwinter when our boats paid off and I get MY own Jeep !!

I am also looking at a super charger as a more affordable option to a Hemi swap. I have seen the Rippmods super charger and I am also looking at the Avenger Supercharger..both similar in price. I haven't research either in depth yet but I do hear that it is important to go with the Gen 2 Rippmods if that is the choice rather than the Gen 1. Apparently the Gen 1 has a throttle lag issue.

Hi Kavik , you know something just dawned on me. Looking at the pictures from RippMods yesterday something seemed "off". It just occured to me this morning it's more like a belt driven Turbo than a supercharger. I was always under the impression a supercharger was belt driven and was a "roots" type or "whipple" type. But seeing the Ripp it just looked more "turboish" with the veins. Maybe thats why the Gen 1 had a lag.

I would agree I looked at the pics and that definately looks like a turbo unit. The Avenger is a bolt on super charger that requires a hood cutting and cowl.

I have also recently seen a actual turbo install video for the JK can't remember the manufacturer at the moment.

I'll have to check out the Avenger Supercharger. I'm inclined to be a bit "old school" and don't mind cutting the hood. I'm a fiberglass wizz (came with building 5 World Record Holding inboard hydroplane boats) and could build a pretty cool add-on or better yet a whole new hood.

Hiya,
Aw Rats! I went to both the Ripp and Avenger sites and there's nothing for the 4.7. You guys got me all hyped up for nothing!!!!! Not that I'd ever spend the money, but where have all my dreams gone?????
Peter.
PS: Both you guys are well within driving distance of me and if you ever DO supercharge, this I've gotta see.
