These are the same diff housings that Bear TraX 4x4 Outfitters Inc. will be selling out of the new shop!!! :D

t2c1 and I tackled the front doff today and got alot done. The pinion angle was set at an initial 9 degrees and then the inner c's were welded on with 8 degrees of castor. This should allow a bit of wiggle room for future adjustment in both pinion and castor angles without sacrificing return to center ability at the wheel.

Tommorrow we will finish putting the suspension bracketry on the housing and measure up for front axle shafts.
Then on to the cosmetics with a healthy dose of grinding and painting.

Thanx T for all the help....

Here are a few pics from the day!!

Today t2c1 and I put in a nice short day....been a long week and I don't think either one of us had an overabundance of motivation to put a long day in. Non the less we still seen some good progress and the front axle is one step closer to being under the Brute. The fill plug is cleaned up and all the inner welding is complete, we also got a jump on the steering and have the tie rod made up and ready for a good cleaning for paint. The pinion guards and new link ends for the upper control arms in the rear welded up. We took the time to mock up the outer assemblies and measure up for inner axles which I will order up on Monday. All that is left is building the Hydro assist mount hoop on the front diff...assemble her and get it under the Brute.

Just a couple pics today...

How wide is it?

Re: New Diffs for the Brute

If I remember correctly the axles are 65" wheel mount to wheel mount. The tires are going to fill out the tube flares nicely, before the flares were a little wide.

Here is a pic of the Brute behind my rig on our trailer on the way to the unveiling at the Rumble on the Rocks in Kelowna! Both rigs are pretty close too center of the trailer. The new diff's are a little wider yet!

You bet.......good ta see you made it here t2c1....

We ended up at about 65 5/8inch mark to allow the fenders to fill up a little and to eliviate the backspace issues associated with the 17 inch wheels(3.63 with the 15's and about 4.5 with the 17's). Of course a little more steering should be enjoyed from stepping the wms out a little further as well.....every little bit helps!!

Just playing with some numbers here and this is what I came up with without a measure stick in hand....these numbers are a best guess of side wall to side wall

78.43 over all width with stock Dana 44(on paper) with 38/15.50/15 tires
80.125 over all width with the new BT9XD set up(on paper) with 38/14.50/17 tires

we will see once she is bolted together though as to how close this guess is!!!

The Brute looks great! Can't wait to see it in action, not that I'll be able to keep up with it offroad in my WJ.

LOL technically......the sway bar is still hooked up...dual rate air actuated unit from ORO..LOL

As far as you keepin up....Meh.....don't worry bout that man it is me that has to keep in pace with who ever comes out.....I am not that guy...you know....the one who only does the trails that rigs like his will do. I have just as much fun with any rig profile....just don't wanna be havin to break trail all the time thats all!!:beerchug:

Did I call it or what :)

One of these days I'll meet up and wheel with you. Seems like everytime the Edmonton boys schedule something life gets in the way. Edmonton being the halfway point to home doesn't help either.

Oh well, one day I'll see that thing in action.

Today was a good day!! t2c1 and I have the steering ram mount made and welded in with the ram test fit done all that is left is the sway bar mounts. We have to wait for the steering arm to show up before they can be located and welded in place to ensure there is no interferance with the drag link. So for the most part a good clean up and a paint job away and we can assemble the front for the last time and get it under the Brute.

The rear was simpish....we had to get the brakes mounted up...

The brackets needed to be massaged a little to get the calipers to sit properly on the rotors. they are solidly tacked in place and will be welded on with a couple of gussets next week sometime. So as far as the rear is concerned finish weld of the caliper stands, a good cleaning with a coat of black....re assemble and bolt it in...

Not Far to wheelin once again.....and lemme tell ya that will be a big relief!!!

Well the best layed intentions of having the front diff assembled and ready to hang under the Jeep hit a snag. We had to rethink the steering and come up with a different design....no biggie just some different parts. We did however get both diffs cleaned up and most of the housing prep done and ready for re assembly......just a few tweeks, brake lines and seals then we can fill them up and sling them into place.....

Just one pic today of the housings on the ground all black and shiny!!

Well we have had a good couple of days over the holiday season. t2c1, 86tincan and myself have the front diff almost completely assembled and ready to sling in place. The rear diff is ready for assembly and with a good morning of exertion will be ready as well. The steering quandary is rectified and all that is left is the assembly of the tie rod, drag link and track bar/track bar brace.

We ended up changing from a true hi-steer to an inverted T steering set up and notched the sway bar brackets for clearance at full lock...for added security we welded on a 3/16 "doubler plate to the notched section of the sway bar tabs but she looks like it will all work together now.

Here are some pics.....
