First leak?

First leak?
Well, yesterday I went to change the oil & filter on my '08 JK 2DR. Imagine my surprise to find a film of oil around the bell housing connection to the motor. Its only got 17,000 on the odometer as well. Wiped it all clean and will check in a day or so if it can possibly be the rear engine seal or something else overlooked. I am a bit disappointed to say the least, for a tough machine like a jeep.

Re: First leak?
Jeeps are well known for leaking from pretty much every crack and hole you can think of. However, that being said, what you have is no longer Jeep. Its Chrysler and they did fix it with the 3.8L and its current drivetrain.
Take it into the dealer, dont touch a thing. Its still under warranty so have them fix it. It SHOULD NOT be leaking. And they will probably try the Jeep thing on you say "Its not a real Jeep, Jeeps haven't been Jeeps since the late 80s, this is a Chrysler and shouldnt be leaking"
Works every time. Almost as reliable as the 4L lol

Re: First leak?
Thanks for the tip 88XJ! I've yet to bring it in to this dealer and was wondering what to say to them.
I was thinking along the line - "Is it common for these Chrysler engines to start to leak around 10,000 miles".
Or something like that. I inadvertently gave the impression that the name "Jeep" meant low quality, period. Having re-read my previous post, I can see where what I said and what I meant differ.

Re: First leak?
So anyway I thought I'd post up what the dealer told me regarding the leak.
It really isn't a leak - only dampness, and besides it's not uncommon.
Many Chrysler vans have this problem and some blow the oil right back to the rear.
The engine is a real good engine and everyone who owns one is pretty happy.
Chrysler won't warrant this minor problem, and besides you've still got plenty of kilometers and at least a year to go. Bring it back when it really starts leaking.
I said ok and as I started to leave he said - at least we've got it on record.
I was initially reluctant to even take it in, as I knew very well that the response would be exactly what I got. But the catcher is that he said it is on record.
