Default disappearing Oil

Ok, so I have a 2010 jeep wrangler Sahara, 2 door manual transmission ..... 3.8 ..... red.....
2 months ago i changed my oil. and i noticed that it had hardly any oil in the system....
so i put new filter on, add new oil after removing what was in there, and now i am checking every 2 weeks my oil level.
well after 2 months i now see i am down over a full quart..,.
weird i am thinking.... I add it......top her off so to say.....

I look at my driveway and No oil drops, new driveway and new Garage, no spots at all, same parking spot for 2 years.... also no spots at the office where i park... so I believe its not leaking .......
Open my radiator, and dip my finger in , its clean no sludge , no oil floating on the liquid.....
hmmmm

whats next? any ideas, or is this normal.. does a jeep burn oil normally???..

forgot to say, about 80K in mileage....

MD41,

That does't sound normal to me.
Send me a PM with your VIN, name, best day time number and I can look in to this with your dealer.

UPDATE......

well lets start this by asking a very important question...

what is the OFFICIAL jeep 3.8 jeep wrangler consumption for 1000 Kilometer? and no guessing please, i mean the real answer from Chrysler.., does any one here really have that knowledge or is it made up as you go for each client? it seems that the knowefdge in here is , lets see now how did the dealer put it, oh yes, " amateur" "incorrect", and full of big mouths that know nothing...

Next question please....

What is the OIL grade that is recommended for the 3.8, I don't mean what YOU recommend, i mean what does Chrysler recommend and is it anywhere in writing?
what would happen if , lets say i use 10w 30, or 10w 40 or hell even 5w30 instead of 5w 20. can they prove that it was used?

If I go onto OIL watch who watches the oil and who measures it when it goes in?:

so lets start with these and the final question... can I trust A dealer to look out for what is best for me?, or am I dealing with a company that is looking out for what is best for them?

ok fill me in and I will let you all know what is going on on my jeep, 3.8

:)

A little bit of consumption isn't out of the normal. Have you checked your PVC Valve? i know sometimes those can stick or break and cause consumptions issues. If not do a compression test or leak down test (per cylinder). It is possible you might have some blow by in a cylinder. Good luck

very true
over 50000km it is 946ml for very 1600km
what is recommended for your vehicle is writen on the oil cap and in your manual. should be 5w20.
it could be proven that a different grade was used but I've never heard of oil being sent out to be test. and I can't find a bulletin that tells tech's to keep a sample of oil to be sent out.
(remember it reads "recommended" oil)

got to love these questions

since it was the dealership I work at that put you on the watch list it would be I and the shop foreman who will be but seeings how I am not level 3 in engines it will be one of the two engine guys and the SF.

You can most certainly trust us. But we follow Chrysler guidelines on oil consumption and do what is outlined in those guidelines.

well, thank you all for the info... sorry for the way i posed thes questions, but getting answers is hard these days.

so.... 5-20 is on the cap, but the dealer put 5-30 in.... why would they do that?
next question is ..Hey MD41, How do you know they did that??? well i say the litre container that they opened, breaking the seal, on the litre of oil it said 5-30, to me that's not correct.. do we suppose that some one is hoping that the extra weight effect is going to lower the blow through?? .. sure maybe it will but hey what about the client....what the client doesn't know...wont hurt them...

when i ask about what is acceptable level of consumption, i never seem to get a number, i get "its just above the acceptable", so now i know.

if true then i am in kaka, you suggest "946ml for very 1600km" i am at about 1 litre just around 1000K now with 5-30 that they put in i am waiting to see the consumption.....i suspected they have been putting 5-30 all along, the last time it was added i made a point to watch. darn i was right,
sometimes in life i dont want to be right and that was one of them..... :(

so i just checked my oil.... its Thursday night...
it has been 500 k since we topped it right up to the top of the markers, and i am down just below the half way of the safe markers on the stick, thats 5 days of driving 80 kilometers a day to the office, don't sit in traffic, its all highway, 65 k of it is, didn't go anywhere on the weekend actually didn't even start the jeep on Sunday....

---- ... i don't like where this is going.... :(

Sounds like a pickle..

My old 93 Civic Si burned oil pretty bad.. But it burned more oil on the highway, I could drive thousands of KMs just puttering around doing short bursts on the highway. But if I did.. 600kms of straight highway. I'd burn ALL of my oil. Don't know if this helps at all, so far I don't think my jeep is burning oil. But then again i only have 1600kms on it..

Good Luck
