There is a law in the USA (and Canada) requiring
that you call for underground utility locations
before you do any excavation.

The pictures below are a result of a farmer using
a post hole digger without calling for "locates"
and he hit an underground, high-pressure cross
country gas pipe.

Had to be one of those gas powered augers, either free-standing or on a tractor.

Supposedly there was no trace of the farmer or his equipment...

It also took out 2 homes...

That's amazing, I know most people don't even think about the network of pipes and cables that are pretty much everywhere underground today and have seen a couple small accidents before but this is just amazing. Any idea where it happened?

 

I bet his tractor will be found about 1/2 - 1km away in some type of wooded area!

 

I have seen that before but still amazing to look at.

 

Whoda Thunkit! Geez - acres and acres of flat land all around and he just had to nail it right on. Talk about Karma or what. Helluva thing to have to happen to anyone imo.

 

Now you got me worried about digging worms to go fishing.............
