Canada Tranny swap

Hello I am new to the site and I just bought my first jeep(95 yj), and it has no tranny in it,
My question is I am looking for an auto tranny and it is a 4.0L
and I have found a auto tranny and transfer case from a 1990 4.0L cherokee and I am wondering if this tranny will bolt right up.
Since I am switching it from a standard to a auto is this going to be a big job and is there anything that I should know or watch for that will make the job go smoother?

Please help I need to purchase a auto tranny for this jeep

Holy long winded
Thanks for all your help and time

I've done so but a few years off... 89 cherokee put in a 93 trans and t-case...
the best thing is look up exactly what specific trans you have and see if it's compatible, or the same...
i ran into a pin output issue with my swap... trans operated flawlessly, but it would not shift on its own, upshifts and downshifts must be selected on the shifter, after the pinout swap it worked great...

id grab the powertrain control module, and all the wiring aswell if possible from the donor jeep, it might save you some headache

Actually I did some digging and the Jeep is a 1989 4.2L, I have been told that the 1990 4.0L from the cherokee will probably not work now because it is fuel injected unless I swap the engine as well, plus the front drive shaft and transfer input shafts will be different.
I think I have found a tranny from another 89 yj I am checking into it this week(parts and cost)
Any suggestions would still be helpful
thanks again

If it's from the same year with the same size motor it will work but grab the PCM out of the donor since it will be calibrated to the auto's shift points and such. You can try yours but if you run into any problems at least you'll have the other one to swap in.
