steering vagueness
i have a 94 that has some "wandering issues" shall we say. impossible to drive in a straight line....continuously correcting and over correcting to stay between the lines going down the road.
tie rod ends and ball joints are fine, steering box is fine......what else could it be?

Look to see if its leaking around the shaft seals, if it's a couple years old it's probably just getting old. If you've put bigger tires/ lift on the Jeep but didn't replace the stabalizer now would be a good time.
If you can get the front tires off the ground crawl under it and get a buddy to slowly turn the wheels back and forth. A bushing could be wearing out, a suspension bolt could be loose.

how bad was swaping wheel bearings? i'm trying to keep this project on the cheap. of course i went to snag the stabilizer off a parts jeep i have, and it was dead and had no oil in it at all.......45min and the cutting torch gas wasted.
would the vagueness be from the worn U joints in the steering shaft? i'm fixing that because of the deadspot in steering it creates, and can't help but think that would be a source.

If it is causing a dead spot then yes it could.
one more possible cause :
steering shaft has two joints that turn loose ....check this out !
have your jeep wheel alignment done verify that your caster is positive (important)
steering damper is easy to verify : remove it if no resistance to movement is feeled change it !
