newbie with questions
I have just recently had my project Suzuki Sidekick (which was almost finished) just written off my a week old F150, but we both had to get towed away!
So know i am looking at getting a YJ as the availability of parts is overwhelming!
I am presently looking at a 90 YJ with a SOA and 35" tires, and 6cyl. what should i expect for mileage on the highway?
Would i get better mileage with the 4.0 injected or the 4.2 carbed engine?
Also what kind of life does both engines get as most of the pre95 yj's that i have been finding are over the 200K mark.

normally 300m plus, not a comparable difference in mpg in the 4cy or 6cy.. 4 is gutless even tho it will come with 4.10 gears. And with 35's hay I make 12 mpg with 33's 4" lift in winter. So don't expect suzuki mpg remembers its got the aerodynamics of a brick on the hwy. There are allot of threads dealing with the same question. You want great mileage buy a honda.
lol, yes I know that I will not get Suzuki mileage with a jeep (btw 25mpg highway/city no matter). I was more wondering what to expect single digits, low teens, high teens.. etc
If you are getting 12 mpg with 33"s, then I guess it would be safe to assume with 35's I can expect 10 mpg or less? ( would changing the gearing help it get back to somewhat reasonable mileage?)

What do you figure is reasonable mileage? . Jeep will probably tell you 16 to 20 Here's a nice site that just put your vehicle in and see what all the read out http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/findacar.htm
Thanks, it is a nice site. Surprisingly there is not much difference between the 4.2 carbed and the 4.0 fi. I figured that there would be a fair difference specially with the fi.
15 to 20 is acceptable for a 4x4 brick! lol
As far as which one is better I am learning that they both have pros and cons, and it is more of preference. Am I correct in saying this?

The jeep sixes are a pretty good motors whether injected or carbed, I think it just comes down to which you are more comfortable with. I grew up with carbed engines but I have to admit that fi has advantages off road due to its reliability when off camber or at other extreme angles.
I had hoped to pick up a 92-94 YJ as i like the styling. Found a deal that i could not pass up. 97 TJ with only 145K and extremely little body work needed, for a low low price of $2500, (co-worker) I don't really care for the grill or dash (starting to look like a suv) and i don't care for air bags in a bush truck, but the price was right and it was local.
