East Elecrtical Issues

Hi all new to your site and really enjoying it. Recently my son and I purchased an 89 yj I think 4.2 auto (to use going back and forth to our cabin hunting fishing). Having a problem with the wiring I think!!
Everything seems fine until you put on the headlights and then the gauges go funny, the tach will flux up and down with the signal lights on and the jeep appears to have a miss in it. Also at times with the lights off the gauges will appear to work fine while other times they go all over the place and may not even work at all.

The gas gauge seems to bounce around all the time and it sems that when it's reading 1/4 full it's actually pretty close to empty.

Wondering if this could be a case wher the machine isn't getting enough ground or it may have a really bad ground.

Main concern is with headlights on it appears the system is under a heavy load which will eventually lead to a break down and another walk out of the country.

Otherwise the jeep appears to run fine although we only had it for a little over 2 weeks and are still going through it before we take our maiden overnighter. Appreciate any other info. you may be able to add with regards to things to look out for while going over her.

Appreciate any advise/troubleshooting or exprertise you may be able to offer us
Thanks. All the best from the ROCK!

Gas gauge is normal and in all honesty all gauges in Jeeps should be seen as a rough estimate. lol

As for the other weird stuff I'd think its a case of a lose ground. Could be a combination of grounds and the alternator.

No problem. We're all in this together. Best bet is to learn how many KM your jeep will go on a full tank and then just fill up based on that.
