AX-15/NP231 install to 78/79 4.2L (BA10/NP231) 1990 YJ.
The title says it all doesn't it? :) I need to install these as my BA10 is dying and I broke my T-case at the rear drive shaft. Does anyone know of a good tech article spelling out this swap? Thanks in advance.

I am currently in the midst of this swap. I am swapping out an 89 BA10 and swapping in an AX15 from an
89 produced later that same year. I was able to source out the "new" trans from KIJIJI which is an excellent resource. It's best to try and find an AX15 already mated to a 231 to save from any output shaft problems. Now, I haven't actually completed this swap yet. I'm acquiring all the parts I might need in order to do it. This is a very good write-up and should get you started. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f19/y...ite-up-312203/
I've gone ahead and ordered a new pilot bushing from Novak conversions
http://www.novak-adapt.com/catalog/p...mc_to_ax15.htm
But have not installed it yet so, I'll let you know how it goes....
I'm also unclear as to whether or not I'll need to fab up or purchase a crossmember adapter like this one from Advance Adapters http://www.advanceadapters.com/categ...p-wrangler-/4/
I'll follow this thread and update as I go along. Let me know If you find anything too as I can use the help also.
Hope that helps,
Mike

I just picked up an AX15/NP231 (from a 4.0L) the other day. I will need to do this soon, so I will try to keep a good log of it. The problem will that my write up will be for a bit of a "Franken' truck", so as to not as generally useful. I got the clutch and drive shafts as well just in case. He also gave me a used "family" rollcage to install, which made me very happy!
