1989 yj 4.2 sputter than stall.
hi, i have been having trouble with my new jeep.
symptoms: jeep starts and runs great choke opens like it should, once it warms up it starts to sputter a bit idle drops to 500. then it slowly dies out., it will also stall at every stop, once i let go of throttle it will die out.
- i also noticed that their is a random ticking. it seems to show when its hot and the jeep sputters when the tick happens, vacuum gauge jumps a little at every tick.
repair or replaced so far:
-fuel pump,
-plugs plug wires,
-2150 carb motorcraft electric choke
-starter relay
-new battery
-new vacuum lines
-dropped gas tank cleaned out, cleaned and replaced fuel lines,
-set timing to 8btdc
-tuned carb with vac gauge
-checked vacuum lines for leaks(propane)
-checked fuel pump its fine,
-re nuttered
-changed oil,
0- motor was rebuilt a couple years ago.
i have videos and pics if u want to see

Re: 1989 yj 4.2 sputter than stall.
Your symptoms resembled mine ('90 YJ Laredo). After many new parts my garage gave up and called in old retired Jeep/Chrysler mechanic. Carb teardown revealed faulty pivot point on one float. Six hours total labour. Hope this helps.
