Just put my hard top on yesterday and left hte TJ out in the rain. There's a little water coming in by the rear corners. I suspect it's coming in around the air vents.

Can anyone advise me on how to remove them and seal them up so they won't leak? Also, any advice on how NOT to do it?

From what I gather these things are not really designed to come out and the plastic tabs that hold them in place invariably snap off when you try to remove them. Replacements are hard to come by.

I'd take the Jeep through a car wash first to make sure it's actually the vents that are leaking. If it's the vents, I'd try to get a little silicon bead into the seam and see if that works before attempting to remove them.

HARD TOP AIR EXHAUSTER
The hard top air exhauster fits very tightly into the hard top and generally cannot be removed without being damaged. It is recommended that availability of a replacement air exhauster is determined prior to attempting to remove it.
REMOVAL
(1) Using a trim stick, C-4755, between air exhauster and hard top, disengage one edge of exhauster from hard top.
(2) Separate the air exhauster from the hard top.
INSTALLATION
(1) Position the air exhauster on the hard top.
(2) Press air exhauster into opening in hard top until fully seated

Hi Gang,

First, let me say, if you don’t have to remove these exhaust vents, DON’T! As indicated, the plastic weld broke when I popped them out, leaving me with a bit of a problem to fix. It would have been much easier to stuff something in to the gap than to remove them and replace them.

THE SOLUTION:

I tried a few different ways to reattach the two pieces of ABS plastic that comprise the exhaust vent, but the way that worked was by putting ABS plumbing cement on the connections. I put the cement on them and then left them for 24 hours so the cement would fully cure. I installed the exhaust vents today and they popped in firmly and stayed together. Seems to be a good fix.
