Canada New Jeep TJ buyer. Few questions? need help!

Hey!

I would like to purchase a TJ Jeep and if im correct, they were made between 1997-2006. What year would u guys recommend to look into for TJ? I would prefer 4.0 L 6 cyl and is there any major advantages or disadvantages in the TJ and years? Auto or standard is cool.
TJ Sport, Rubicon, Safari, what would u recommend? I heard Rubicon are worse on gas mil and have some issues and sport would be the way to go and also sport are cheaper in price Ive notice. Would u say TJ sport would be the way to go?

Thanks if anyone can help me out!

First of all .. welcome to the Jeep World.. Owning a JEEP makes heroin addiction look like a vague wish for something salty!!!!!

Hmm to answer your questions, there are so many. 1997 was the first year for the TJ, which was the year they came out with coil springs, back to round headlights, air bags etc.
Base model is the SE, then the Sport. Next is the Sahara then in 2003 came the Rubicon. SE was made with the 4 cyl, Sport came with 6 cyl and the Sahara 6 cyl with heavier axles (but not actual).

Now all of em had options for upgrades, meaning finding a Sport with heavier axles.. is like finding an honest Politician in Ottawa. Type of axles are Dana 30 (front), Dana 35(rear) and the Dana 44(front and rear ~ heavier). Google them to see how to identify the different ones.

Standard or Auto is your choice. There are TONs of debates which are on going. Some say Autos are better off road, better in stop and go. Some say Standard for the better control and fuel economy. Which I am sorry to say is no better, fuel economy, in any model which one you choose.

Best thing I can say is do some research, TONs of it! If I researched the Jeep before I bought, I would have gone differently. Check out forums, Google 'TJ' and start reading.. there is SO much information out there, it can be overwhelming!

Hopefully this will give you a good start? I am sure there are more people out there with more knowledge than me who can give some information.
