Ok, I got my Jeep few weeks ago, and the first thing I did I almost froze my brain. Does anybody have an idea how to “winterize” the hard top without making it extremely ugly? I thought of gluing Velcro to the roof and second part to some piece of cloth and stick it to the roof during winter time and remove it when it is not as cold as it is right now.
PS: hate to run my heater on high since its making lots of noise.

 

I run the heater in my '98 at the 1st or 2nd blower setting with the window cracked open a couple of inches and I'm nice and warm after a few minutes driving. Maybe you have a heating problem.

If you don't have heat, insulation won't do you much good. If you've got proper heat, you really shouldn't need insulation.

 

I never thought of that, I am a little low on engine coolant though, thats where the heat is coming from right?

 

If there's not much heat you might want to try a heater core back flush.
Just like it sounds Flush the heater core buy it's self to get rid of sediment.

Let's not get into what it takes to remove one.

All you tj owners might want to take very good care of you're heater cores.

Trust me.

 

Well, extreem cold outside is over for now - not so cold inside. But still i strongly believe that there are ways to make it more sealed to keep the heat inside. I mean there is raw metal showing up all over the interior, am i the only one concerned about it?lol

 

Hi , i live way up North in Timmins , i,m on my 4th Jeep now , had a TJ , YJ , Liberty and now on a 4 door Wrangler . We have some pretty severe weather up here . With wind chills down to the -50 . The past few days here have been down in the -35 to -40 again. I can say that there has never been any time where the heater is insufficient in warming the inside of any of these that i,ve had .I had some other issues due to the cold but heat wasn,t one of them .Do as the others suggest and check your heater core . It may be that simple .

 

If you have a 4 cy you might want to look into buying a winter front. Cdn tire used to carry them now I know that national4wd has them and probably other offroading stores there ard $50. If its a 6 cy same thing or I find it not necessary for the 6 cy it heats really well.

You could also buy pieces of Armaflex (foam insulation that was once used on beer cooolies) and create your own barrier. Check out an industrial supply store.

Like previously posted, the guy needs to fix his heating system.
Adding all kinds of insulation to the hardtop won't do anything if the heater don't work.
It'll still be cold.
If he fixes his heater, he won't need insulation.
