Guage cluster trouble

Guage cluster trouble
Hi,
My '99 TJ has an intermitent gauge cluster. If I bang the dash above the guages, I can get sometimes all the gauges working again. But not for long.
My question is: Is this a common problem? and if it is, what are my options?
Signed, annoyed

Re: Guage cluster trouble
I haven't heard of that problem before personnally. If all the guages die at the same time and come alive again with a tap I would suspect bad ground. There should be an eyelet terminal conector on the back lower left of your instument cluster. I would check that first. It should be a black wire with a light green tracer. Also, have you had any upgrades or mods done in the past that involved accessing the wiring harnesses in your dash? Your problem could be a spin off from something else done in the past.
Hope this points you in the right direction.

Re: Guage cluster trouble
If everything goes out together you probably have either a socket plug coming apart or a ground issue.
Reach under the dash and push all the sockets together until you feel a snap or hear a click.
See what that does to start with..

Re: Guage cluster trouble
sounds like maybe your gage cluster plug is not pluged in properly, only takes 10 mins to pull yur dash apart and check it out.did someone have the dash apart, that would be what i checked first
