a few questions
hello. i have an 04 rocky mountain tj. it is still stock, with a few badges to make it unique
i had an encounter in water, and the worst part was that my passenger side rear wheel was the one that was deep. that being said, the fuel system sucked the water up and into the fuel tank. what is being done on the trail rigs to prevent this from happening? another question is, does anyone have any pictures for mirror relocator kits? i am thinking of making a bush guard and making some mounts up front, so the mirrors look right down the sides, just over the fenders |

The fuel pump and sending unit in a Jeep TJ are inside the gas tank which for obvious reasons is fully sealed. While it may be possible to get some water in through the venting system in the filler cap this is really unlikely. You'd have to be in water that is over the hood deep. I that case getting water in your air intake would be much greater concern then a little bit of water in your fuel. What i would be most concerned about in your situation is that water probably got sucked in through your differential breather hoses, unless you have already lenghtened them. Water in your differential gear oil is certainly not a good thing. |
Re: a few questions
^^ X2 ^^
You can run your Jeep with the tail pipe immersed in water all day and you shouldn't have any problems. What you're saying makes no sense with the info you provided. And why would you even consider doing something as crazy as that with your mirrors??? |
Re: a few questions
thank you RIPONREDTJ
the 04 tj as mine is has a non venting cap. there is a pump located behind the rear tire on the pasanger side that regulates presure in the tank. this was nessary to lower emissions from around the filler cap area.( this is what has been told to me by the techs) as far as what had me think i had water in the tank.... i didnt think i had water and i made them prove it to me befor i payed. they showed me the fuel, and water mixed that they emptied from the tank, and they showed me video of the process. there was a lot of river sidement in the fuel, and i know it was from the river i changed the fluids in the diffs( which were good, as far as having water in them) and i changed the fluids in the transmition and t-case(both of which had waterin them) but the engin didnt run right, and the check engine light came on. it threw lots of codes. i had ruined spark plugs, and an 02 sensor had to be replaced. then they tuned it up. ran good again after as far as the mirrors....well. i hear it is illegal to run with out at least one side mirror, and i like to have 2 my jeep runs so hot in the interior that i would like to be able to take the doors off. problem i see with this is when the doors go back on, all locations i can think of putting the mirrors will hit the doors when the doors are fully open. i dont want to have to change from relocator and then back to door mirrors just to take the doors off thank you for actually responding here, it seems that there is not a lot of activity in this forum |
Re: a few questions
KELONALUKE, thank you for the response also
let me know if my above makes sence. i didnt believe the techs either. but the engine was rough running, missing, and as i was taking it in, it would not rev very high. the plugs they replaced were .... i dont know how to describe them, really wide ------ from the steam. i am actually supprised it ran on them. must have been the other 4 that wernt as bad that kept it running till it got to the shop |

For your mirror problem, just get one or two bicycle mirrors and attach them to the door hinges when you take the doors off.
Under 10 bucks per mirror and works like a charm. |
Re: a few questions
I don't even know where to start here you are raising alot of issues at once....

Under 10 bucks per mirror and works like a charm. Agreed..... I got my mirror with a mounting braket for $8 at Princess Auto. |
Re: a few questions
Agreed, this forum is really quiet.
Good idea on the bicycle mirrors! I wanted to lose the doors this summer but didn't want to get trouble from the rcmp. Jet |
Re: a few questions
thank you all for the ideas, and feedback here.
i had the work done at a dodge dealer ship in edmonton, and i was not a very plesant customer when they told me what they were doing. maybe they did end up lying to me in the end. i will hwve to go back under and look again. there is something there behind the rear wheel, and i do know i seen the water and fuel in the pails at the shop. the jeep was not that deep in the water, the rear driver side tire was still showing almost half out of the water, but the pass side had spun in the silt and sunk. just the way the bank was there, one side in silt, the other on gravel and i couldnt move. the fan was just touching water. i had pictures, but it was dark and with a cell phone so no detail showed |

For mounting hardware I just used a piece of aluminum stock lying around, drilled two holes in it, bought a nut and bold and Bob's your uncle. I can slap it on or rip it off in about 30 seconds. Just buy a simple well made mirror so you don't have any vibration issues. I ran with my doors off from June to October and loved that little mirror. Can't wait to rip off the doors and slap it back on next spring. |
Re: a few questions
No problem. I agree this forum is pretty dead... thats why i figured i would contribute. I agree it's not the liveliest Jeep forum around but it is Canadian, it does have a lot of good information, and you don't have to wade through thousands of posts about rigs set up for wheeling in the American southwest to find relevant info about wheeling up here in the Canadian topography. The more people like you guys we can get to contribute to discussions here, the more relevant the forum will become. :beerchug: |
