Question Drivetrain questions

I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out what transfer case and transmission my 1998 Tj 2.5 4cyl has? Also is I believe the gear ratio in 98's is 4:10 while in 00 I believe it is 3:73, that is for the dana 30 and 35 found in the four cyl. Is this correct?

Also,If you want to know what gears you have look for a tag under one of the diff cover bolts in the 9 o'clock position. This will tell you what ratio the Jeep originally had and likely should still have. Here is an example of an axle tag you would find on a TJ axle:

Thank you very much, very appreciated! I know my axles will not stand up to a 350 swap for wheeling but I am pretty sure you can get an adapter form advance adapters to bolt a 350 chevy to my transmission. What is the concensus on my tranny (AX-5) and transfer case (NV231) standing up to and being reliable enough for some fairly tuff wheeling with this engine swap?

The axles and tcase might last for a little while but I don't think the ax5 would last more than about five minutes.

Thank guys, any input on how hard it is (and what kind of transmission/t-case) to use behind an LT1 350 chevy. I want to retain a manual tranny.

i would find a manual chev trans and matching t case, better get some fullsize axles too.an LT1 with manual trans will blow those diffs apart.

Thanks sid, I know the stock axles won't hold up, but I don't want full size axles because of the width! I like how narrow my jeep is for going through tight trails. I'm going to start saving and buy a set of built currie high pinion 9" housings in the stock width with maby 5:29's and 37's. But this is down the road a ways. I also want to four link the rear and go with coil overs all the way around! Once I start to build I will post a bunch of pics.
