coil pack problem
I went to the mechanic yesterday cause all my cv joints seem to be fine and my drive shaft had them balance my tires but am still having the shaking problem on my jeep when i go around 100km every so often , the garage told me to go to chrysler and get a dignostic check but they think it is my coil pack and that it should cost around 1000$ to replace seems like a lot for a coil pack and yes I do know it is only one coil pack for the hole engine just wanted to know if anyone else has replace the coil pack on their jeep and how much did it cost thanks alot Jon

www.rockauto.com $120.00US even with exchange, duty, and shipping it'll be a hell of a lot cheaper than what you were quoted. I thought the prices in McMurray were outrageous!

Re: coil pack problem
Is the shaking coming through the steering wheel or through the body?
|
Re: coil pack problem
no the shaking is coming through the tranny but seems more like the engine really and i did change the tranny mount

Re: coil pack problem
Did you check the condition of your motor mounts to?
|
Re: coil pack problem
yes they are all ok

Re: coil pack problem
Have you checked the condition of your spark plugs? If one is dead or close to dying then you'll get noticable vibration from the engine and may give the impression that one of the coil boots is lagging.
The jeep hasn't thrown any codes? Seems that if the PCM isn't getting enough spark to the cylinder it should be showing something including a cylinder misfire. If it was the tranny, would expect a delay in response time, slower off the line kind of thing. Don't know if you have a manual or auto but if it's an auto does it perform the same way if you shut the OD off? |
Re: coil pack problem
no i changed the spark plugs and no codes it is manuall and have not noticed any lack of performance but thanks for the help am bring it to chrysler tommor for a diagnostic test c from there what happens

Re: coil pack problem
Well if they say it's the coil pack at least you know you can get it cheaper than they want and it's only a 1/2 hour job to change out.

Re: coil pack problem
so it is the coil pack but the dealer charged me $160 to tell me that they told me they had to test drive it which I dont understand and then they back probed it to find that cylinder 5 is misfiring which I already new so they basically told me nothing and charged me 160$ for it but they said they are sure it is the coil pack thanks for the help am going to try to change it friday
