Default Buying a TJ

I'm looking to buy a newer TJ. I plan to spend up to $10,000. With what I've learned I think I want a 6 cylinder. I dont plan to do anything crazy, but I want something thats reliable when it has to be.

Is there a particular year/model I should look for? Newer the better? How many kms should I consider too much?

Just looking for any advice you have.

Thanks in advance!

Here are 2 sites u can go to check out the reviews and prices.
Cars & Motorsports - Product Reviews, Buying Guides, and Consumer Advice - Epinions.com (this one has reviews done by buyers like u and I so I wud be more inclined to believe what is written)
Canada Used Autos, Cars, Trucks, Boats, Motorcycles Online Classified Ads - AutoTrader.ca (This is for all kinds of vehicles just punch in what ur after)
In or around ur town there must be the FREE auto magazines (they come out like every couple of months found at shpg centers or 4x4 stores)
If you can get a 2005 under 100km wud be nice. I paid 10m for my 03 tj 1.5yrs ago.. but it was a deal mileage at 95k If you buy a Rubicon u have mostly what is needed for offroading and if you buy the Sahara or Sport tj your more in the basic form. Yet u will pay more for the Rubicon is it worth the difference in price? I have put almost 3m on mine and still no lockers, small axles, gearing.
Getting a 6 I believe is a good choice theirs not much difference in mpg between the 4 and 6 and the 6 will give u more power
Check the equipment, has it got the dana 44 axles (4.11 gearing) which is std on some models and years, disc brakes on rear too, you want 2 tops (soft and hard)
This is just a small amount of info from my perspective.
Good Luck

I bought a 2001 Sport model, 6 cyl, 5 speed. I would definitely recommend the 4.0l engine. As far as mileage goes, if it looks like it has been well maintained I wouldn't worry about the mileage. We get Jeeps in the shop with 300+ on the odometer that work as good as new. That's what got me interested in Jeeps in the first place.

I bought my '04 TJ with 106k on it for about 11k , would have spent more, absolutely love it..
Yes it is the manual 5, with 6cyl. If you worry about fuel in 05 I think they went to a 6 speed tranny...

Only prob I find is I want to keep on finding excuses to go driving..WHAT a BLAAASTTTTT!

Cheers
