Re: YJ slave cylinder
Hi Carl,
As Earle suggested the other day you need the newer bellhousing to
fit your AX5 to make the conversion to an external slave. You may see
why yours failed as the loose straps in the picture hold the slave
collapsed until it's held by it's limitations inside the housing. I
would say it would be smart to start with a new slave each time it comes
apart: http://www.----------.com/YJslave.jpg

Re: YJ slave cylinder
I suspect air in the system. The ideal way to bleed these things, is with a
pressure bleeder. This is a tank, that you fill with brake fluid and
pressurize. A hose and an air-tight fitting to the master cylinder cover,
allow you to pressurize the master cylinder and thereby the entire system.
Once you do this, just loosen the bleeder and all the air will come out.
Second choice is to have an assistant press and hold the pedal, while you
have the bleeder screw open. Then you close the bleeder, and the assistant
*slowly* releases the pedal. A few strokes like this and usually all the
air comes out. Third choice (can't always find an assistant) is to fasten a
flexible hose to the bleeder, immerse the other end of the hose in a
container of brake fluid (so it doesn't suck air back) and slowly pump the
pedal until all the air comes out.
Another possibility, less likely, is a master cylinder gone bad. (If the
slave cylinder goes bad, then it will be leaking.)

Re: YJ slave cylinder
I suggested that to Carl Bill, but cost and timing restraints were liminting
his resourses at the time. I spoke with Carl on the phone, apparently there
is fluid on top of his transmission, according to him. I suggested to him
that it might be a possibility that the bleeder was a little loose.......
(hoping). Not sure where the bleeder is on the 4 banger. he says after the
failure, he refilled and can't find any leakage after someone pumped it 150
times......
Sooooooo
I suggested to him to refill it, and keep some fluid with him and check it
often until the problem area either showes itself or he replaces the slave....
