YJ dipstick accuracy.
Today I finished my transfer case replacement with Mobil1 synthetic ATF,
my Rear with Mobil1 synthetic gear oil and some stuff called Trans-X?
I also did an oil and filter change to Mobil1 synthetic 10W30, 6 quarts.
Now the dipstick is bearly showing oil but I did put in 6 quarts (4.0L)
and there is no leak. My VW also has a funny dipstick when you change
the oil and measure the exact amount it doesn't show full. Both the
YJ and the Jetta run great with this amount of oil but the dipsticks
are a bit off. What's the accuracy on a Jeep dipstick. If I fill it to
the full reading it will probably be another quart. Why?
BTW, the rear is slammin now. No vibrations anymore when I get on it and
I can even notice limited slip kicking in during the rain. It's like this
light humming whine and you can feel the rears sticking to the road. Before
the change I couldn't excelerate hard until the RPM were up due to old
gear and transfer ATF. It would shake the rear apart. Heh the PO who sold
me the Jeep Cheep(sic) was not very mechanically inclined. :)
