My 89 XJ had a clunking noise on rollup or down, turned out to be the
plastic pipe
glide tube had come off and the regulator cable was snaking around inside
the door.
Popped it back together, sprayed in some lubriplate and seems fine now.
Also popped open the Eaton (Ford) window regulator toggle switches with a
knife blade,
sprayed them clean with WD40, removed carbon deposits on contact points with
pencil
eraser, reassembled with Vaseline to replace original switchlube----now all
windows work happily.
NB: be sure to re-install switch rocker contacts the way they came out, then
the switch
the right way around or it won't work.
