I believe it would be one of the best swaps, but not worth the fight
with the SMOG *****.

How so? I would expect the engine computer would be reused out of the

Any modification must be certified. Just passing the dynamometer
tests are not enough. Jeff Strickland (Crawler) here, must jump though
hoops every couple of years with his electronic fuel injected CJ.

I have seen too many 'soon to be dead' engines from wrecks to really
want one. The thrust bearing on the crank can be mush. You mentioned a
barrier... I would check the end play and drain the oil through a
screen to see.... If you see any shavings, then think that all the rod
journals had that side shear too...
I think the V8 will be too wide, but anything can be made to fit with a
sawsall and a torch.... I would be tempted. ;-)
