"Humming noise" is often a wheel bearing. I have heard propeller shafts
making what can be described as vibrations or humming, but only at higher
speeds than you mention. Take the shaft off and check for binding and play
in the joints. When u-joints start to go, binding may be apparent before
play. Before buying a new propeller shaft, check with your local parts
store to see whether the joint is rebuildable.

do.

I called the same guy who provided me with axle shafts and CV joints for
other repairs on the off chance he might not fall over laughing at me and
he said he could get me a new aftermarket for $300. Not too bad vs. the
$400+ at the dealerships. I haven't bought it yet, pending your advice,
but my wallet thanked him profusely anyway.
