WJ front propeller/drive shaft
Hi,
My WJ started making a humming noise at speeds greater than
15 mph. When this happened on my YJ, it was due to a worn ring
and pinion in the rear dif. I inspected the rings and pinions
on both the front and rear difs as part of other maintenance
and they looked fine. The sealed U-joints in the rear drive
shaft are still tight. I have not looked inside the t-case,
but the special quadradrive t-case goo was recently replaced.
The front propeller/drive shaft, however, rattles when I
shake it. Both the front and rear CV boots are not torn.
After poking around, I came across this:
http://www.wjjeeps.com/tsb_list.htm#030399
Before I blow 4-500 bucks on a new front drive shaft, am
I looking in the wrong place?
I can't seem to find this part on line except at the Wyckoff
dealership.
Anything else I should look into?

Try www.chryslerpartsdirect.com I've used them in the past for OEM
parts and always had good results. They are a dealer, just not one
that gouges.
napaonline.com might have something.

Wow. That is scary. Both chryslerpartsdirect and Wyckoff are NJ
dealers, have almost the same web interface for parts selection...
etc, etc... And they are 10 bucks off from each other for the part.

Re: WJ front propeller/drive shaft
You can just remove the driveshafts one at a time and drive it to figure
out if either is causing the noise.
