Winches

Who makes a good winch for a good price? Are the stock winches by Mopar any
good? Can I do better?

Thanks,
-Muuurgh

Mopar Winches are made by Warn and are basically the XD series. They work
fine.

Mopar's winches are made by Warn.. You'd be better off just buying a
Warn winch as you'll find it is cheeper and is litterly the same
thing.. I currently have an hs9500 on my TJ.. I haven't yet had the
opertunity to use it on my jeep yet ... But I had the winch on my
3/4ton on 37's for three years and used it dozens of times and it
was able to move it around with little problem.. I have no doubt it
will more then do the job for me on a significantly smaller
vehicle..

My Warn 8000 is a marvel. A warn will be much less expensive than
your dealer's Mopar.

Real Jeeps use Power Take Off gear driven winches, they don't over
heat and die before the job is done. The Wannabees may still use the

If it's not idling too well in that position we just pull the idle
speed knob out a little, you have one, right? Of course, you do your
batter would be dead in twenty seconds if the alternator not working

Re: Winches

Of course, when the "Real Jeep's" engine is dead, it is also irretrieveably
stuck, because (like the hydraulic-type) a PTO can't operate with anything
but engine power. So, if you've found yourself stranded in the middle of the
river with a dead engine, might as well just get yourself to shore, forget
the Jeep and hoof it back to town....whatever's left of it'll be there after
the spring runoff is done. With an electric winch you can ... oh, never
mind...

With an electric winch you can ... oh, never
mind...
