Will Wrangler 16' rims fit my 94 Cherokee hubs?

Hi All,

94 Cherokee SE, 5spd, 2WD, 125K miles

I'm in need of a set of tires, and found someone (who upgraded)
selling new tires with rims from a late model Wrangler that I can pick
up on the cheap.

The tires are P225/75/R16's, on a 5 spoke, 5 lug rim.

Will these fit on my 94 cherokee? I have P225/75/R15's on the thing
now. I understand the rim on the new tire is an inch taller, don't
think this presents a problem, but perhaps you can advise.

I was curious to know if the new wheels will fit my existing hubs.

I'd appreciate any comments. Thanks very much.

S.

Re: Will Wrangler 16' rims fit my 94 Cherokee hubs?

The new size is exactly 1 inch larger than the tires you have now. The revs
per mile will change from 713 on the current size to 689 on the new size.
I'm not sure, but the affect on the speedo should be negligable. The speedo
will slow a bit, if 60 displayed now is really 56, then 60 displayed with
the new tires will be very close to exactly 60, maybe 61 or so. There is a
formula that I'm not sure about, but it can't be difficult and my guess is
close enough for this discussion.

It is strictly a change in the percentage of tire height. For instance,
if you go from 30" to 33" tires, the change is 10%. In this case your
speedo would read 10% slow, so when you are going 60, the speedo will
read 54mph. This is assuming the speedo is correct with the current
tires, like you mentioned.

for the OP, your original tires are 28.3" and the new ones would be
29.3". This is an increase of about 3.5%, which means that at 60mph,
your speedo will read about 2 mph slower than it does now.

Also remember that tires very rarely are manufactured to exactly the
size printed on them. Between manufacturing tolerances of the tires, and
the fact that your speedo probably isn't exactly right, I really
wouldn't worry about it.

Re: Will Wrangler 16' rims fit my 94 Cherokee hubs?

Thanks for insights, guys. So, the '07 Wrangle rims should fit my
'94 Cherokee, correct? The bolt pattern is the same?

Thanks again.
