Just for the sake of numbers, remember that, since the shackle lifts only
at one end of the spring, the lift is roughly half the extended length at
the axle tube. I think it'll help articulation a bit, though. Bump steer
might be a problem when you get to lifts of higher numbers too.
In my experience, uneven roads can leave you swerving like a drunk if you
lift to wuthering heights. If you get froggy with some scrap steel and a
drill press, you can make shackles all on your lonesome. But, I'd recommend
against that and get some good braced ones aftermarket unless you're good at
welding some yourself. If you don't have 'em braced, they tend to flex back
and forth giving less than stellar handling and unnecessarily stressing the
shackle bolts.
