What happens on a Roll over
While looking at cage options I was thinking about what a cage protects
(besides your life). As I was looking at this page:

It looks to me the windshield would be busted up if the roll over was over
the front. Yes? Has anyone had this happen to them?
Also, in that first pic, would the back roll bar really be needed?
I'm thinking about this kind of option as I want to put the CJ8 half cab on
my CJ7.
Another thing. Back in the "days" we used to go hunting in the jeep. It
seems we always liked to stand up in the passenger seat to get a better view
of what we were going over. Therefore I would think I would like spaces in
the roll cage to allow for driver or passenger to stand up at any given time
(not necessarily during rock crawling but at other times). With the cage in
the pic it would be difficult to stand up.
Any feedback on this idea?

You got to think about what kind of 'wheeling you do and what you want
to protect. If you want to protect your precious windshield, you'll need one
of these hideous-looking external rollcages. Whether they really protect
anything is anyones guess...
The most common off-road rollovers are having the jeep go on the side,
often in slow motion. A rollover over the front is pretty rare, but has a
lot
more energy to destroy anything. If that happens, the windshield is going to
be the least of your worries...
If you get it on the roof, the main worry is to protect the occupants heads
from rocks, tree stumps, limbs etc. sticking through the rollcage. That's
why the spaces you talk about are a bad idea. Others even cover the
top of the rollcage with metal netting, etc.
To me it looks like there is a seat mounted in the bed, which is probably
one reason for the rear bar.

The roll cage is only there to protect you and your passenger(s). You will
get body damage... no avoiding that. And, yes the windshield most always
goes, even if you just put in on it's side. If you want to still be able to
get a hard-top on the front roll bar has to be below the windshield. If
your back roll bar is already in there, why take it out... all the more
protection.

get body damage... no avoiding that. And, yes the windshield most always
goes, even if you just put in on it's side. If you want to still be able to
get a hard-top on the front roll bar has to be below the windshield. If
your back roll bar is already in there, why take it out... all the more
protection.
