'84 CJ and the ubiquitous 258\5 sp. Does Nutter apply here? I have
zero emissions connected but the computer is still attached to the
distributor.

'84 CJ and the ubiquitous 258\5 sp. Does Nutter apply here? I have
zero emissions connected but the computer is still attached to the
distributor.

Yup, that is why I asked.
The computer goes into 'limp home' mode and clamps down on the timing.
I just add two new wires when doing the Nutter rather than mess around
inside the wiring harness.
It is easy, the orange and purple wires at the distributor get connected
directly to the orange and purple at the ignition module, then you set
the timing up.
My 258 seems to run the best at 9 deg with a ported vacuum on the
advance. I get great power and mileage running with 91 octane. If I
run 87 octane, I drop at least 100 miles per tank on mileage.
I seem to do ok for power on mid grade fuel too, but haven't done a
proper mileage test using it yet.
