Re: Wanted: Assembly guide for SR-4 transmission
Hi Tom,
I have never assembled an Borg-Warner SR-4. I see the top forks
which would be a major change in the assemble sequence, but on all
manual transmissions I've worked on we start with an empty case, and
load greased needle bearings and their separators on a shortened dummy
bar into the cluster, if you don't have a dummy load the counter shaft
and freeze in you refrigerator, then carefully remove it and and
reinsert it in the case with correctly placed thrust washers. Reverse
idler. Assemble the main shaft without the rear output bearing, put the
loose (greased) rollers bearings in the input, without it's bearing
together with the output as a unit and try to wiggle it pass the
cluster, then carefully slide their bearings on, remember if they slide
apart you'll have to pull it out again. On some rock crushers ratios the
cluster must sit loosely in the bottom to clear the main. Hopefully
that's not yours.
