it does tie into the op switch thats how it tells the engine is warm and shuts down choke
operation ford used this method too

The oil pressure switch is open with "no" oil pressure and closed "with" oil
pressure. It is not a temp sensor. With the engine running, there is always
power to the choke heater.
There is a temp sensor that operates the manifold heater relay.
