There never was a forest in our Southern California desert. The
Railroad planted Austrian eucalyptus, that grow here profusely, and
makes very hot and glowing embers combined with our Santa Ana winds will
start new fires fifty miles from the main forest fire. One of my
childhood jobs was to cut them down, before it grew up between the power
lines: http://www.----------.com/temp/eucalyptus
